(Reuters] – An American Navy officer was sentenced to four years imprisonment for lying about the purchase of two guns by him for a Chinese national last year.

A 37-year old lieutenant in U.S. Navy anti-submarine warfare training was Fin Yang. He was found guilty in Florida by a federal jury of purchasing guns for the head a Chinese defense contractoring company that employed him.

Sherri Onks was the FBI’s special agent responsible for Jacksonville. She gave a written statement stating that Fan Yang (Lieutenant), swears an Oath to Protect This Country, but instead he poses a serious threat to U.S. National Security when he fails to report his contact to the head of Chinese defense contracting firms.”

Onks stated that the act was more outrageous considering Lt. Yang’s Top Secret security clearance, and his active-duty status in the U.S. Navy as an officer.

Prosecutors allege that Songtao Ge was a Chinese national who hired Yang as his wife in 2016, for Shanghai Breeze Technology Co. Ltd. and eventually paid Yang over $300,000.

Yang, a Sig Sauer 9mm pistol & a Glock 9mm pistol that he bought for Ge in 2017 & 2018, falsely representing the firearms were for him, according to prosecutors.

Prosecutors allege that Yang also misrepresented his relationship to Ge in a background questionnaire he had to complete as part of his Navy security clearance.

In November, he was found guilty of conspiring against U.S. firearms laws as well as making false statements in his security clearance.
