U.S. taps GM, Oracle, airline CEOs for Homeland Security advisory panel -Breaking

WASHINGTON (Reuters] – The U.S. The Homeland Security Department announced Thursday that it would name the Chief Executives of General Motors, United Airlines American Airlines (NASDAQ;), Bank of America(NYSE:), Oracle (NYSE 🙂 and other companies to an advisory committee.
Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said he was adding 33 members in advance of the council’s first meeting set for Monday, which is tasked with helping “define the department’s strategic vision, strengthen the department to better meet the increasingly dynamic and rapidly evolving threat landscape, and harness technology and innovation to modernize the programs it administers.”
The chief executives of Polaris, (NYSE:), are also being mentioned. Duke Energy (NYSE:) Chobani LLC
Mayorkas stated to reporters that he selected “leaders from a variety of fields with diverse breadths of expertise so that we not only tap into that expertise but, quite frankly, can listen to their concerns.”
Since COVID-19 has been a problem for American airlines, they have been pressing Biden to eliminate the requirements that masks be worn on planes. They also want to abolish the requirement that passengers fly from other countries to receive a negative COVID-19 screening one day prior to flying to the United States.
Automakers like GM were disrupted by Canadian trucking demonstrations in February, which caused production to be halted in the United States.
Mayorkas stated that the executive team would allow the department to “capitalize upon the power of technology innovation and serve our nation by living upto our highest ideals.”
Transportation Security Administration will launch a pilot program with Apple (NASDAQ;) that allows people from eight states to attach their drivers licenses or state IDs to their iPhone and Apple Watch Wallet to be used at airport security checkpoints.
Ex-Cabinet secretaries of the Democratic and Republican Presidents as well as executive heads of both national law enforcement and non-profit organisations are other advisory members.
