Google urges judge hearing U.S. antitrust lawsuit to reject sanctions request -Breaking

WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – Alphabet’s Google asked a judge in a U.S. Antitrust Case against it to deny the Justice Department’s request for it to be sanctioned. It claimed it hadn’t abused attorney-client confidentiality.

Judge Amit Mahta had been asked by the Department to sanction Google. The judge stated that Google’s program “Communicate with Care”, which was used to safeguard communications from disclosures not subject to attorney-client privilege, sometimes served as a “game”.

Google filed a Thursday filing saying that allegations of sanctionable misconduct were baseless and that a misreading was made to a few slides used in training employees.

Google stated that it conferred with the government to determine if emails are actually covered by attorney-client privilege. The company said that some documents were already available to it.

Google filed that it did not prove “the bad-faith misconduct necessary to strip a Party of its privilege protects”.

In 2020, Google was sued by the Justice Department for violating antitrust law. The trial began in September 2023.
