Attorney General Merrick Garland tests positive for Covid

Merrick Garland, Attorney General of the United States was tested for Covid Wednesday afternoon. This happened just hours later. speaking in person at a news conferenceAlong with Christopher Wray, FBI Director and top Biden Administration officials.

Garland isn’t symptomatic and asked for a test to see if he was infected. The department stated that he is now fully vaccinated against Covid, and will be able to work remotely for the next five days.

A DOJ official said that the attorney general was not considered to have been a close friend of President Joe Biden. According to the official, their previous meeting took place a week before at an outdoor signing ceremony held in the White House Rose Garden.

Garland was reported to have attended a white-tie dinner at the White Tie Dinner hosted by hundreds of journalists and politicians over the weekend. have since tested positive for Covid.

Biden’s Cabinet also had Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo as an attendee. She tested positive on Wednesday.

The dinner was attended by Reps. Joaquin Castro in Texas and Adam Schiff from California.

More than 600 media and political figures attended the Gridiron Club and Foundation Dinner Saturday night. They flocked to downtown D.C.’s Renaissance Hotel, which is four stars.

The traditional event features high-profile figures — including U.S. presidents — cracking political jokes usually aimed at other lawmakers and the press.

Gridiron Saturday dinner is an annual event which has been around for over a century. first one to be held since the start of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020.

CNBC did not reach out to the Gridiron Club earlier Wednesday for any comment regarding Raimondo’s and other attendees who had tested positive for Covid.

A White House official said that when someone tests positive for Covid, it will disclose to CNBC whether Biden had ever been close to anyone at the Gridiron dinner.

Garland, Wednesday revealed an indictmentKonstantin Malofeyev is being charged with U.S. sanction violations. He was a Russian oligarch who is accused of financing separatist activities in the Crimean Peninsula.

Garland, Wray and Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco were present at the news conference. This raised concerns regarding Covid exposure by top officials in U.S. security.

Garland was also joined by Assistant Attorney General Matthew Olsen and Principal Deputy Assistant AttorneyGeneral Nicholas McQuaid. Also, Chief Philip Frigm, FBI Cyber Section Chief, Klepto Capture Task Force director Andrew Adams were there.
