Lee is the first candidate to declare a bid for the post of global financial centre chief executive since nominations opened Sunday.
A former deputy commissioner, police officer, the 64-year old was elevated to Hong Kong’s No. The No. 2 post in Hong Kong in 2021 was a sign that Beijing’s priority for Hong Kong is security, not the economy.
