Hong Kong’s former No. 2 official to run in leadership election -Breaking

HONG KONG (Reuters – A press invite seen late Friday by Reuters shows that John Lee, a former Hong Kong deputy leader will contest a May leadership election.

Lee is the first candidate to declare a bid for the post of global financial centre chief executive since nominations opened Sunday.

A former deputy commissioner, police officer, the 64-year old was elevated to Hong Kong’s No. The No. 2 post in Hong Kong in 2021 was a sign that Beijing’s priority for Hong Kong is security, not the economy.
