(Reuters] -Four men were charged in a plot against Michigan Governor Rick Snyder. They are accused of trying to seize control of her COVID-19 rights and attempting to start a new civil War.

Robert Jonker, U.S. District Judge, received a note from the jurors stating that they had come to an agreement with some of the charges but not on all others. There were no details on the specific charges that jurors had either reached an agreement or were stuck on.

Jonker asked that the jury work for an additional hour as it was still in the fifth day of deliberations in an attempt to end the deadlock and avoid mistrials.

Prosecutors claimed that Barry Croft Jr. Barry Caserta, Barry Croft Jr., and Adam Fox planned to abduct Governor Gretchen Whitmer at her Michigan vacation home. This was to remove what they believed were draconian restrictions imposed on the Democrat in order to stem the spread coronavirus.

According to prosecutors, the suspects believed that the kidnapping would lead to a new American civil war before the 2020 election. This was because the pandemic in the United States had increased the country’s extreme political and cultural divisions.

Defense attorneys claimed that FBI informants forced their clients to discuss the plot during a nearly one-month-long trial. Their attorneys claimed that the men did not make any concrete plans and they were victims to overreach and entrapment by the prosecution.

The governor is being held hostage by all four defendants. Fox, Croft, and Harris are also accused of conspiring to use weapons of mass destruction in the kidnapping plot. This was allegedly because they tried to purchase explosives which could have been used for blowing up bridges as part their escape plan. The men can spend their entire lives behind bars if they are convicted.

The weapon charge was the main focus for the jury of 12 members. An earlier week, the jury requested that Judge Jonker define a weapon. The judge agreed to allow the jury inspection of the pennies on Friday. According to Detroit Free Press, prosecutors stated the pennies were intended to be used as shrapnel and the defendants planned to put in an explosive homemade to make it more powerful.

This case has brought to light the rise of right-wing militant organizations since Republican Donald Trump’s election in 2016. This case also shows how the Pandemic and the government’s efforts to contain it has become an issue of wedge in American politics. It pushes some people to the extreme.

Ty Garbin, Kaleb Franks and Kaleb Wright were also initially charged. They both agreed to plea bargains and were star witnesses in the case. Garbin currently serves a six year sentence while Franks is awaiting sentencing.

These four men, along Garbin and Franks are just two of 13 people who were taken into custody in October 2020. They have been charged with federal or state crimes for the kidnapping plot. Seven are currently facing state court charges.

FBI claimed it started tracking movements of the group after monitoring online discussion posts that discussed the overthrow or destruction of certain state governments. This group was formed to remove the restrictions on business and social activities that were imposed by the coronavirus pandemic.

Harris, Caserta, and an undercover witness who gave evidence at the trial, were all members of the Wolverine Watchmen militia group, according to prosecutors. Croft was a member the “Three Percenters”, an organization similar to far-right. Fox also was a member.
