WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – A Proud Boys leader is likely to plead guilty to Friday’s charges in connection to an attack on the U.S. Capitol. According to a court filing. This could be a win for prosecutors and help them strengthen their case against other members of this group.

Charles Donohoe will be appearing in court to plead guilty. He was the North Carolina Chapter leader at the time. ET (15:00 GMT). However, the court papers didn’t specify exactly to which charges he would plead guilty.

Donohue was 34 when he was detained in March 2021. Since then, Donohue has been kept in prison.

In an attempt to reverse his defeat in 2020, Donald Trump’s supporters stormed Congress.

Donohue, along with other Proud Boys, were videotaped leading the crowd towards the Capitol during the riot. According to court documents, the U.S. Department of Justice claimed they were involved in the Capitol break-in. These men deny the allegations.

Kelly stated that Donohoe was charged with interference in the peaceful transfer of power in the country. Kelly spoke at a June court hearing, saying that these charges were “gravely serious” and that they favor detention.

A last-month indictment revealed that Enrique Tarrio, the chairman of Proud Boys was implicated in recruiting Proud Boys members and leading their actions during the period preceding the attack on Jan. 6.

Tarrio’s lawyer entered the guilty plea during a virtual hearing at the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia
