Hyundai Expanding Montgomery Plant to Include EVs -Breaking

Hyundai expands Montgomery plant to include EVsHyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama, an affiliate of Hyundai Motor (OTC) announced on Tuesday that they plan to add electric vehicles in its Montgomery, Alabama assembly line. This will make the Montgomery plant the nation’s first Hyundai-EV plant.
“Hyundai Motor Company is taking its first steps in electric vehicle production in the United States. We are excited to showcase our team members’ skills in producing electric vehicles here in Alabama,” said Ernie Kim, Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama’s president and CEO.
Hyundai announced that they will invest $300 million in the Electrified Genesis GV70 as well as the hybrid Santa Fe. In order to increase electric vehicle production, the plant expansion will add warehouse space as well as enhanced assembly procedures.
“Over the years, we have developed an enduring partnership with Hyundai, and it’s been great to witness the profound economic impacts of the company’s continued investments in Alabama,” Gov. Kay Ivey made the statement. “Hyundai’s new growth plans in Montgomery will help prepare the state’s auto industry for the EV revolution while also aligning with our strategic initiatives such as Drive Electric Alabama.
This new facility is connected to a joint venture Hyundai-LG battery plant, which will open in 2024.
