Ukraine seizes 26 cars and 32 apartments of detained Kremlin ally Medvedchuk

WASHINGTON — Ukraine authorities have announced that more than 150 assets were seized by Viktor Medvedchuk. He is a former media mogul as well as a politician, and has been charged with treason after he allegedly conspired with the Kremlin for the overthrow of Ukraine’s elected government.

According to an announcement by Ukraine’s security services, the group included 26 cars and 32 apartments as well as 23 houses, thirty plots of ground, 17 parking spaces, and a yacht.

According to authorities, they also identified 25 capital shares in companies that were owned by Medvedchuk and his wife OksanaMarchenko.

After more than a month of being a fugitive after fleeing from his home in chaos after Russia’s February 24th invasion, Medvedchuk was taken into custody by Ukrainian police.

According to Russian President Vladimir Putin, Medvedchuk is close friend of Ukraine. Tuesday’s news about Medvedchuk being arrested was met with joy in Ukraine. The country continues its resistance against an aggressive Russian invasion.

This Thursday was the first public appearance by Ukraine’s highest law enforcement official.

He claimed that Russian agents had planned to bring Medvedchuk across Ukrainian territory via boat, into the Russian-occupied part of the country. From there they would take him to Moscow.

Medvedchuk, 67 years old, was dressed in a Ukrainian Army uniform when he was arrested. He was accompanied by real Ukrainian law enforcement officers.

This week, the Ukrainian authorities released a photo of Medvedchuk under arrest. It does not reveal his wealth. Forbes Ukraine has estimated that Medvedchuk is worth just $620million in 2021.

The asset seizures paint a picture of the extravagant lifestyle of one the richest people in Ukraine.

Medvedchuk was the owner of several luxurious homes in Ukraine. The exterior of his Kyiv home features an authentic Pullman train car with a gold interior,Parked at a false station platform.

A judge in Ukraine had ordered the seizure of three apartments and two villas, as well as a yacht, belonging to Marchenko earlier this year.

It measures 300 feet in length and is estimated to be worth approximately $200 million. The ship was docked in Croatia. it was repossessed in mid-March.

The second yacht that they had taken was not mentioned by the Ukrainian authorities on Thursday.
