SHANGHAI, (Reuters) – China’s financial center Shanghai saw a record number of COVID-19 symptoms on Saturday. The country imposed new locks to highlight its “dynamic clearing” approach to COVID management.

Zhengzhou Airport Economic Zone is an area of Henan in central China that hosts manufacturing plants of many companies, including Apple Inc (NASDAQ:), supplier Foxconn. It announced Friday that it would be locking down for 14 days “to adjust according to the epidemic.”

Foxconn is the trademark of Hon Hai Precision Industry Co Ltd.

Personnel with valid permits, proof of positive COVID test results, and health codes will not be allowed to leave the area during this period. However, “special vehicles” can travel normal for work purposes, according to economic zone officials in an announcement on WeChat.

Foxconn has not yet responded to our requests for comment.

This announcement was made by Xian, a northwestern Chinese city. It had previously announced that it would temporarily lock down its 13 million inhabitants in response to dozens COVID-19-related infections.

These new restrictions are likely to cause supply chain disruptions which could lead to delayed shipments by companies like Apple. Economists believe that this will also impact the country’s ability to grow its economy in the coming year.

China’s central banking cut Friday night the cash banks can keep as reserves to offset sharp slowing of growth.

The chief executive of Chinese electric car marker Xpeng (NYSE 🙂 stated Friday that automakers might have to stop production next month if their suppliers from Shanghai or the surrounding regions can’t resume work.

Shanghai was the center of China’s current outbreak. It reported on Saturday a record number of 3,590 symptomatic and 19,923 unsymptomatic patients for April 15. Asymptomatic cases were slightly lower than 19,872 cases one day earlier.

Even though most of the 25 million inhabitants of this city are still under lockdown, the COVID count in the city continues to be the largest nationwide. China recorded 24,791 new coronavirus infections on Saturday. Of these, 3,896 cases were symptomatic and 20,895 had no symptoms.

This compares to 24,268 cases that were reported a day before – there are 3,486 and 20,782 symptomatic infections. China does not count these separately.

Henan Province, which is also home to Zhengzhou Airport Economic Zone (Zhengzhou Airport Economic Zone), reported 24 new asymptomatic patients on Friday. However, there were no other symptomatic cases.
