(Reuters) – The Ukraine filled out a questionnaire, which is used as a point of reference by the European Union in deciding whether Kyiv should be admitted to membership. This was stated by Ihor Zelenskiy, deputy head at President Volodymyr Zeleskiy’s Office.
Ursula von der Leyen (President of European Commission) handed Zelenskiy a questionnaire on her visit to Kyiv, April 8, 2018. She promised to speed up Ukraine’s application to the EU in the wake of Russia’s invasion.
Zhovkva stated to the Ukrainian public broadcaster on Sunday night, “Today I can tell that the Ukrainian side has completed the document.”
He said that the European Commission would need to make a recommendation about Ukraine’s compliance of all necessary criteria for membership.
“We expect that the recommendation… will be positive. Then the ball is on the side EU member states.”
Zhovkva stated that Ukraine will be granted the status as a candidate for EU membership in June at a meeting scheduled by the European Council.
According to the Council’s website schedule, June 23-24th will be the European Council meeting.
We will then need to initiate accession discussions. Zhovkva explained that after those talks have been held, they can begin to discuss Ukraine’s full EU membership.
