LONDON, (Reuters) – Deliveroo plans to appeal a French court decision that it claimed had abused its freelance status. The ruling, according to a spokesperson, resulted in a fine of 375,000 euros and suspension sentences for its two former bosses.

A spokesperson from the British food delivery firm, Deliveroo, stated to Reuters: “Deliveroo is going to appeal this decision.” The judgment is against precedent civil court decisions that have found riders self-employed over the same historical period.

“While the case is not about today’s operating system, we disagree strongly with its decision and its basis, and we intend to appeal.”
