These are two important questions that you should ask potential employers and recruiters after having sent many resumes.

Are there any expectations?

Jackie Mitchell, a career- and life coach for her consulting company, told CNBC Make It: The golden question to ask potential employers is, “What expectations do you have of this person in that role?” Then you can ask yourself — Are those expectations in alignment with what I’m looking for?

Mitchell states, “These are the questions we need to ask so that you’re in a place of, dare i say, despair.” You don’t need to feel that you have to work for a job. It’s possible. This mindset will make it difficult to spot red flags.

Mitchell suggests asking the questions will help you appear confident, bold and assertive towards your employer. Mitchell advises being assertive and respectful because that shows your knowledge of what you are looking for, as well as showing you don’t mind asking for it.

Mitchell states, “You are not coming into the job market as a normal job seeker. You’re coming here to offer a service and also provide an added value.”
