WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – U.S. President Joe Biden will be meeting with Mario Draghi, the Italian Prime Minister. They’ll discuss Russia’s invasion in Ukraine and other topics.

The White House announced that Biden would host his Italian counterpart on May 10, ahead of the G7 summits and NATO summits in Juni.

Draghi’s office stated that “the focus of this meeting will be upon coordination with the Allies regarding measures to support Ukrainian peoples and counter Russia’s unjustified aggression.”

Draghi, along with other Western leaders, coordinated the Russian response after Russia invaded neighboring countries on Feb. 24, and they have pledged to keep Moscow under pressure.

The two leaders will also discuss regional and global security issues, economic issues, Europe’s energy security and climate change, the White House added.

Draghi was forced to cancel his recent African trip after testing positive to COVID-19. On Wednesday, Draghi tested negative for this novel coronavirus. This allowed him to return to Africa.
