(Reuters) – Lockheed Martin Corp (NYSE 🙂 was awarded two contracts by the U.S. military for Javelin missiles. This antitank weapon has assisted Ukraine in fighting Russia’s invasion.

Lockheed Technologies’ (NYSE:) missile unit jointly makes the Javelin rockets.

As the conflict in Ukraine escalates, the demand for Javelin missiles is high. They were originally used in Ukraine to prevent Russian tanks from attacking the capital and to aid in an artillery attack in the east.

The United States has already sent over 5,500 Javelins to Ukraine.

According to the defense contractor, the contracts included more than 1300 Javelin missiles, which were funded by the Ukraine Supplemental Appropriations Act, and several orders from international customers, including Norway, Albania and Latvia.

Lockheed stated that its goal is to produce more missiles than the 2,100 it produces annually.
