KYIV (Reuters). Ukraine said Monday that troops defending Kharkiv was defeated by Russian forces, and had advanced to the Russian border.

Reuters couldn’t immediately confirm the battlefield accounts of Ukraine and was unable determine how many troops reached Russia’s border.

This would confirm that the Ukrainian counter-offensive in the northeast is succeeding more than ever after Western military authorities said Moscow’s attack in Donbas had failed.

In a post on Facebook (NASDAQ) by Ukraine’s defense ministry, it stated that the 227th Battalion of 127th Brigade of Ukraine’s armed forces reached Russia’s border and added: “Together we will win!”

Oleh Sinegubov (Kharkiv region governor) wrote that soldiers of the 227th Battalion restored a sign along the state border.

Sinegubov expressed gratitude for all those who gave their lives in order to free Ukraine from Russian invasion.

Ukraine scored numerous victories since Russia invaded Kyiv on February 24th, forcing its commanders to give up an attempt on capital Kyiv and make quick gains around Kharkiv.

Moscow describes the Ukrainian invasion as “special military operation” that aims to eliminate fascists in Ukraine. Kyiv, along with its Western allies, claim this assertion is unprovoked and a pretext.
