Investing.com – U.S. stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

The index was down 3.57%, hitting a new 52 week low.

They were the top performers at the session Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:) fell 0.10%, or 0.05 points, to trade at 48.89 by the close. Meanwhile, Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:) fell 0.57% or 1.39 points to end at 243.96 and Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:) was down 0.97% or 0.90 points to 92.10 in late trade.

Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ) was the session’s worst performer, falling 8.39% or 3.77 point to trade at 41.17 by the end. Coca-Cola Co (NYSE: ) fell 6.96%, or 4.58 points, to close at 61.20. Walmart Inc (NYSE 🙂 dropped 6.79% (or 8.92 points) to 122.43.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were TJX Companies Inc (NYSE:) which rose 7.12% to 60.19, Assurant Inc (NYSE:), which rose 1.31% to settle in at 186.85 NRG Energy Inc (NYSE:), which closed at 45.76 after gaining 1.24%.

These were the worst performers Target Corporation (NYSE:), which fell 24.93% to 161.61 during late trade Dollar Tree Inc (NASDAQ): The stock lost 14.42% to settle in at 133.80 Old Dominion Freight Line Inc (NASDAQ:), down 12.97%, to 236.47 at close.

These were the top performers in the NASDAQ Composite Troika Media Group Inc (NASDAQ) rose 48.21%, to 0.58 Magenta Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:), which rose 32.20% to settle for 1.56 Ricebran Tech (NASDAQ:), gained 22.08% and closed at 0.72

The worst performers were Endo International PLC (NASDAQ:) which was down 46.54% to 0.62 in late trade, Baudax Bio Inc (NASDAQ:) which lost 31.53% to settle at 0.81 and INVO Bioscience Inc (NASDAQ) was at its lowest point of 29.45%, closing at 1.09

The New York Stock Exchange saw falling stocks surpass advancing by 472, 458, and 81 ending unchanged. On the Nasdaq Stock Exchange however, 341 fell and 745 advanced while 212 ended unchanged.

Target Corporation shares (NYSE:), fell 24.93% to 52 week lows. That’s a drop of 53.67 or 53.67 points to 161.61. NRG Energy Inc. (NYSE:), shares rose to 5-year records; increasing 1.24%, or 0.56, to 45.76. Old Dominion Freight Line Inc. (NASDAQ) shares dropped 12.97%, or 35.25 – 236.47. Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ) shares fell 8.39% to 52 week lows. This is a fall of 3.77 to 41.17. Walmart Inc (NYSE) shares fell by 6.79%, or 8.92 to 122.43. Endo International PLC’s (NASDAQ:), shares fell 46.54%, or 0.54 to 0.62 to their lowest level in over a decade. Shares in Baudax Bio Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; falling 31.53% or 0.37 to 0.81. INVO Bioscience Inc shares fell by 29.45% (or 0.46) to 1.09.

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 18.62% to 30.96.

The June delivery of Gold Futures was lower by 0.27%, or 4.99 to $1.813.91 per troy ounce. Other commodities traded included Crude oil, which fell 3.04 or 2.77% to reach $106.59/barrel, and the July Brent Oil contract that fell 2.93 or 2.94 at $108.99/barrel.

The EUR/USD fell by 0.81% at 1.05 while the USD/JPY dropped by 0.92% at 128.21.

US Dollar Index Futures were up 0.533% to 103.96.
