EU oil embargo ‘in days’ as Ukraine isolation drives Russia closer to China -Breaking

LVIV (Ukraine)/BERLIN (Reuters – According to Germany’s largest member, an EU embargo will be agreed on Russian oil imports within days. This is because Moscow stated that it sees its economic ties with China growing after the West has isolated Russia over its invasion in Ukraine.
Volodymyr Zelenskiy, the Ukrainian president, told Davos business leaders on Monday that Russia must be sanctioned more to prevent other nations from using brute force to accomplish their goals.
Many EU member countries are dependent on Russian energy. Kyiv has criticised the EU for not acting quickly enough to stop supplies.
Hungary refused to compromise on its Monday demands for investment in energy, despite EU countries pushing for quick approval. EU offered as much as 2 billion Euros ($2.14 Billion) to eastern and central nations without non-Russian supplies.
Robert Habeck, Germany’s Economy Minister said to ZDF that he expected to make a breakthrough in the next few days.
He said that the European Commission and United States had been working together on a proposal for limiting global oil prices.
He stated, “It is evidently an unusual measure. But these are uncommon times.”
The three-month-long Russian invasion of Europe, which was the largest attack on any European country since 1945, saw over 6.5million people flee to their homeland. It also turned whole cities into rubble and led to unprecedented Western sanctions being imposed on Russia.
U.S. coffee giant Starbucks (NASDAQ 🙂 announced that on Monday it would leave the country, a symbol of its isolation.
Sergei Lavrov, the Russian foreign minister, stated that the Kremlin will focus its efforts on China’s development as the United States and Europe have been cut.
He said that “if they (the West), want to offer some in terms of recapping relations, then then we will consider whether or not we will require it.” According to the transcript, he spoke in speech.
The West now has a ‘dictator position,’ so our economic ties to China will increase even more.
These comments were made by U.S. President Joe Biden while he was on a tour of Asia. He stated that he would use force in Taiwan to protect it from Chinese aggression. This comment seemed to be stretching the boundaries of U.S. policies towards Taiwan.
DONBAS FIGHTING
Russia seeks to surround Ukrainian forces on the battlefield and capture Donetsk and Luhansk provinces. This is a strategy Russia supports when it comes to separatist forces in the eastern Donbas.
Since the Russian troops left the region around Kyiv’s capital and northern regions at the beginning of March, the focus of their operations has been on the east.
Zelenskiy disclosed Ukraine’s greatest military casualties from one attack in war Monday. He said that 87 were killed after Russian forces struck a barracks located at an north-facing training base.
In a Monday evening speech, he stated that every time he told his partners about the need for modern anti-ballistic weaponry and military aircraft, he was not asking for empty promises.
“These are people’s lives that would have survived if they were not able to get all of the weapons requested.”
The United States announced Monday that the pledge of Denmark to ship Harpoon antiship missiles to Ukraine and a launcher was made. This is the first indication since February’s Russian invasion that Kyiv would receive U.S. weapons significantly increasing its strike range.
Boeing (NYSE 🙂 has developed Harpoons that could be used to drive the Russian navy out of Ukraine’s Black Sea ports. It would also allow grain and other agricultural product exports to resume.
Russia claims it’s engaged in “special operations” in Ukraine in order to disarm its neighbour and expel dangerous nationalists. This is a pretext for invasion, Kyiv and the West call it.
According to Ukraine’s Joint Forces Task Force military commander, Russian forces opened fire on 38 Donetsk-Luhansk communities on Monday. Seven people were killed and six injured.
Reuters could not verify this information immediately.
Russia bombed the Donbass city of Sievierodonetsk, Serhiy Gaidai (the governor of Luhansk), said via Telegram.
He wrote, “The enemy seeks out places people are hiding.”
He also said that there are other parts of the area under constant attack.
According to its website, the Ukrainian prosecutor general is currently investigating more than 13,000 Russian war crimes.
Russia denies targeting civilians and participating in war crimes.
