The 19 children and two teachers killed in Tuesday’s elementary school massacre in Texas were in the same classroom, where the gunman “barricaded” himself and fired indiscriminately, a law enforcement official said Wednesday.

According to Lt. Chris Olivarez, spokesperson for Texas Department of Public Safety, those who sustained injuries in the attack on Robb Elementary School in Uvalde also suffered from injuries in that single classroom. CNN.

Multiple senior law enforcement officers identified the shooter as Salvador Rolando Ramos (18). Olivarez stated Wednesday that the attacker was able “to make entry into a school, then barricaded himself in that room and just started shooting at, uh… many children and teachers present, with no regard for human lives.”

He stated that he had “just begun shooting anybody in his way”, adding,

Olivarez, a father, called Ramos a “complete, evil person.”

The officer who was first at the scene of the shooting heard it and tried to escape but was met by an overwhelming barrage, he stated. Some of them were killed.

The officers were not able to put an immediate halt to the destruction in the classroom so they began to evacuate the students and employees from other areas of the building.

Sources say that gunman was killed by an off-duty agent of the border patrol

According to two sources, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection Border Patrol Tactical Unit officer and two police officers entered the school during the firing.

According to sources, they managed to stop the gunman from continuing to fire behind a barricade. CBP agents were also wounded, but not fatally.

Uvalde has many connections to agents, and they all live there. A spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security said that both on-duty and off-duty Border Patrol personnel were present at the scene in order to safely transfer students.

The number of law enforcement officers, students and staff involved in the incident is unknown. University Hospital San Antonio reported that two women aged 66 and 10 years old were listed as being in serious condition on Wednesday. A girl of 10 years is in stable condition. The 9-year old girl, who was listed as being in fair condition previously, is in good. According to hospital, the children have their families with them.

Uvalde Memorial Hospital saw 14 patients Tuesday evening, with 11 being children between the ages of 8-10 years old. CEO Tom Nordwick spoke on Tuesday. Nordwick reported that 4 of them were released. Two, a male, and one female, died at the hospital’s arrival.

Brooke Army Medical Center, Joint Base San Antonio Fort Sam Houston stated that the two individuals listed as being in critical condition on Tuesday are in grave condition on Wednesday.
