KYIV (Reuters – Russian forces are intensifying their assault on Sievierodonetsk in Ukraine, after claiming they have captured Lyman rail station. Kyiv is calling for long-range weapons from Western countries.

Recent Russian gains have been slow and steady in Donbas in eastern Ukraine, including the Luhansk region and Donetsk. This suggests a subtle momentum shift within the war now in its fourth-month.

After abandoning the attack on Kyiv’s capital city, the Kremlin abandoned the plan to take control of all Luhansk.

Russia’s defense ministry stated Saturday that its troops and allies were under full control over Lyman, which is the location of Lyman (located west of Siverskyi Donets River) in Donetsk.

Hanna Malyar was the deputy defence minister of Ukraine, and she stated that Lyman’s battle continues, according to ZN.ua.

The Russians attacked Sievierodonetsk (about 60km) on Lyman’s eastern bank. It was the biggest Donbas city that Ukraine still holds.

According to the Ukrainian police, “Sievierodonetsk has been under constant enemy attack,” they posted on social media.

Russian artillery was also attacking the Lysychansk–Bakhmut road. Russia should close this pincer movement to encircle Ukrainian troops.

Police stated that Lysychansk was the scene of significant destruction.

According to the Luhansk governor, Russian troops have already entered Sievierodonetsk. To avoid capture, Ukrainian troops could have to leave the city, Governor Serhiy Gaidai stated. The extent of their withdrawal on Saturday was still not known.

Mykhailo Podolyak, the Ukrainian president’s adviser and peace negotiator, reiterated a request for U.S.-made multiple rocket launchers with long range. According to U.S. officials, such systems are being actively considered by Reuters with a decision expected in the coming days.

“It’s hard to fight when you’re attacked 70km away from home and don’t have anything to back up with. Ukraine is capable of bringing Russia back behind the Iron Curtain. However, we require effective weapons to do that,” Podolyak wrote on Twitter (NYSE.

In a video message late at night, President Volodymyr Zilenskiy expressed hope that Ukraine’s allies will provide weapons. He also said that he was expecting “good news” for this week.

BUILDINGS DESTRUCTED

In a short Facebook post (NASDAQ:), Ukrainian forces in Donbas stated that they were on defense all day and had fended off seven Russian strikes as well as destroyed a tank.

Governor Gaidai stated that 90% of buildings in Sievierodonetsk suffered damage, and 14 buildings high were destroyed during the most recent shelling.

Reuters was unable to independently confirm the claims.

Zelenskiy claimed that the military situation within the Donbas is very complex, noting that defences are holding up in many places including Lysychansk and Sievierodonetsk.

It’s difficult and inexplicable. He said, “I am thankful to all who have withstood the onslaught.”

According to British defense ministry, if Russia succeeds in seizing those regions, Russia would most likely consider it a “substantive politische achievement” that it can use to justify invading the Russian population.

Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Olga Stefanishyna stated that NATO was incapable of providing a coordinated response to Western disagreements on the war.

She stated on Facebook, “We must talk clear about the devastating consequences for all Europe’s future if Ukraine defeats.”

According to Zelenskiy, Russia will be open for talks if Ukraine is able to regain all its territory since February 24, when the invasion started.

Zelenskiy denied that Russia could use force to seize all of Ukraine’s land since 2014. This includes Crimea and the south peninsula. Moscow annexed Crimea in 2014.

“I don’t think we can rebuild all of our territories by using military force. “If we choose to do that, we’ll lose hundreds of thousand of people,” he stated.

Russia asserts it is conducting a “special army operation” in Ukraine to disarm nationalists and demilitarize the country. The claims of Russia are falsely pretexted for an aggression war, according to the West and Ukraine.

Numerous millions of people have fled their homes to seek safety in safer regions of Ukraine and other parts of the world.

According to Kharkiv’s second city, six civilians sustained injuries in recent Russian bombardment.

GRAIN AND GUNS

French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and German President Vladimir Putin spoke on Saturday in an attempt to resolve a conflict with Ukraine.

France claimed that the French urged Putin not to block Odesa’s port by Russia to let Ukrainian grain exports. Russian President Putin said to them that he was open to discussing ways for Ukraine to resume grain exports from Black Sea ports.

Ukraine is a large grain exporter. The blockage of Ukraine’s exports could cause food shortages across a variety countries, including Africa.
