REUTERS/Lukas Barth/File Pho(Reuters) – Bavarian Nordic, a Danish biotechnology company, revised its annual guidance Monday after it signed supply agreements with several unidentified countries to produce its Imvanex monkeypox vaccination.
Bavarian Nordic stated that vaccine delivery would begin immediately, and also said it was currently in talks with other countries about vaccine supply.
CEO Paul Chaplin released a statement, “We are happy to assist more nations with vaccine supply while we continue to dialogue with other countries to make vaccines as quickly as possible to mitigate this situation,” he said.
Bavarian anticipates that 2022’s revenue will range between 1.4 billion Danish crowns and 1.5 billion Danish crowns ($202.93million and $217.43million), up from previous estimates of 1.3 million to 1.5 million.
Additionally, EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes and amortization) was increased to an expected loss between 900million and 1.13 billion crowns. It is a significant improvement on the previous guidance, which had been based on a loss between 1 billion and 1.5 billion crowns.
Monkeypox can be an infective disease. It is relatively mild and is common in areas of central and western Africa. Since May, more than 200 cases have been confirmed and suspected of this viral disease in 19 countries.
Last week, the European Union announced it was interested in purchasing Bavarian Nordic vaccine. Although the vaccine is approved by Europe for smallpox and can be prescribed off-label to doctors for monkeypox, it has not been approved for use in other countries.
