Tom’s Hardware reports that the market for discrete graphics cards has seen a notable increase in both value and volume over the past 12 months, which is good news for consumers.
This article states that discrete GPU shipments to AIB partners have risen, with John Peddie Research reporting a 32.2% annual increase in total shipments from Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices.
The lower GPU prices caused a drop in the AIB market’s value to $8.6 billion, despite shipments rising.
Nvidia has also been reported to have lost market share in the last year.
Nvidia had an 80% market share and AMD had 20% in discrete GPU markets. AMD held 20% of the market during Q1 2021. Aaron Klotz, a Tom’s Hardware journalist, wrote that AMD gained a small amount of market share in Q1 2022. Nvidia now has 75% and AMD is at 24% respectively.
The change in AMD’s market share isn’t huge, but it’s a victory for the company that has long struggled for a piece of the GPU market.
