United States authorities asked Mexico to investigate alleged violations of worker rights at the Stellantis (NYSE 🙂 Teksid Hierro de Mexico automotive-parts plant. Following a petition from the United Auto Workers, and a Mexican labor organization, the request is being made to Mexico for an investigation into alleged violations of worker rights at the Stellantis (NYSE:) Teksid Hierro de Mexico auto-parts plant. Workers are being denied the right to association and collective bargaining.

U.S. Trade Rep. Katherine Tai directed Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen not to sell any unsold goods from the Teksid hierro plant.

Mexico is required to implement laws to allow workers to collectively bargain under the USMCA. It replaced the North American Free Trade Agreement of 2020. The US can revoke its tariff-free status for exports of individual factories that do not comply with labor laws, such as those Mexico implemented in 2019. Officials from the United States said Monday that this is the fourth complaint in violation of the revised trade agreement.

Mexico’s Economy Ministry said it would decide within 10 days whether to accept the U.S. request.
