EOS Network Foundation Releases “Blue” Papers, Funds Transaction Lifecycle Overhaul by OCIThe Network Foundation (ENF), the new entity that has been entrusted by the EOS community to develop its core blockchain software, has completed the first stage of its planned technical improvement of the EOSIO core software, divided into four main “Blue Papers” and development branches.
Blue Papers can be divided into Audit+ and Core+. Core+ focuses on security analysis and contract auditing for EOSIO app; Core+ aims at restoring the EOSIO technology stack as a leader in blockchain; API+ aims to improve EOSIO node endpoints for better statistics and useability for dApps. Wallet+ outlines new wallets SDKs, standards and other useful information to enhance the user experience.
Execution is the next step after the Blue Paper research has been completed. The ENF partnered up with Object Computing, Inc., a consultancy company whose technology department was instrumental in developing EOSIO during their partnership with Block.One. OCI has 200+ engineers who have been involved in blockchain projects including Emanate, AirTM and StrongBlock. This includes corporations like NASA (NYSE), Bayer, OTC: and Motorola (NYSE). OCI will be working with API+ to improve the Transaction Lifecycle.
The API+ Blue Paper and community feedback identified Transaction Lifecycle as high priority. This project aims to improve the quality of life for users of node-endpoint APIs, as they previously did not have adequate tools to safely pass or execute transactions. For example, existing “subjective billing” features made it difficult to predict resource costs (gas costs in other blockchains) of any particular transaction. Users also had a difficult time tracking transactions and having to resubmit them, which significantly impacted their experience. Some developers came up with workarounds but the wider EOSIO community was faced with unnecessary problems.
This overhaul will address the most pressing issues identified in API+. An API endpoint that will allow you to estimate the resource use for transactions submitted is now available. Routing within Subjective Billing is also going to be redesigned to reduce the rate of “lost” transactions. Transaction tracking and relaying will also see improvements. These will help to create efficient block explorers, or replicate their features for dApp interfaces.
“EOS is fortunate to be able to leverage an experienced team such as OCI. ENF welcomes the opportunity to continue collaboration which will be a significant benefit to the EOS Network. Having access to multiple industry leading development teams will undoubtedly strengthen EOS’s core codebase with many teams working in parallel to implement a consolidated roadmap of products and features as outlined in our Blue Papers.” – Yves La Rose, ENF – Executive Director
“OCI has been contributing to the development of EOSIO since the very beginning; we’re excited about this opportunity to work with ENF to build upon that work and make the EOS platform the most performant and easy to use blockchain in the world.” – Brian Johnson, OCI – Principal Blockchain Engineer
