NEW YORK (Reuters), – An ex-militant for President Donald Trump, a billionaire sought investment in two United Arab Emirates sovereign funds while he illegally lobbied for his country.

A new Brooklyn federal indictment alleges that Thomas Barrack, an investment manager firm, received capital commitments of the unnamed UAE funds in 2017. This was after he had not received any new funds in the UAE from 2009 through 2016.

Prosecutors said that Barrack was the chair of Trump’s inaugural fund in 2017 and was often present at the White House. He was also secretly lobbying Trump for the UAE from 2016 to 2018, according to prosecutors.

Barrack, who pleaded guilty to an earlier charge on seven counts of criminal offenses last year, is now awaiting his trial which will take place in the fall. Barrack is being charged with nine crimes, including making false statements and acting as an unregistered agent foreign agent. Barrack’s lawyers didn’t immediately reply to inquiries for comment Wednesday.

However, the indictment does not identify the company that accepted the commitments. Barrack is the founder of digital infrastructure-focused private equity firm DigitalBridge Group Inc, formerly known as Colony Capital (NYSE:).

DigitalBridge has not yet responded to my request for comment. Barrack has been removed from the roles of chairman and chief executives.

According to indictment, Barrack sent an email to an executive from the UAE sovereign wealth fund and stated that he felt “honored” and “privileged” to see the fund invest $74million with his company. The indictment states that a second fund pledged $300million the year after.

Barrack’s company was not mentioned in the indictment.
