MONTERREY Mexico (Reuters – On Sunday, the first hurricane of the Eastern Pacific Season barreled toward Mexico’s southern coast. The storm brought maximum sustained winds at 75 mph (120 km/h), which are likely to increase as it approaches landfall on Monday.

According to National Hurricane Center (NHC), Hurricane Agatha was approximately 200 miles west-southwest of Puerto Angel at 7:01 a.m. on Sunday (Mexico City hour).

According to the NHC, hurricane warnings were issued for portions of Oaxaca’s coast, extending from Salina Cruz to Lagunas de Chacahua.

According to NHC, heavy rain is likely to hit the south states of Oaxaca and Chiapas by Sunday afternoon. This could lead to “life-threatening flash flooding or mudslides.”
