(Reuters) – The extreme winds that battered Ontario in Canada pushed more than 280,000 people and businesses into darkness. Hydro One stated on Saturday. But power supplies were restored.

Toronto-listed firm, which provides electricity to around 1.4million customers in the province, stated it anticipated more outages, until winds subside.

Hydro One said that it expects its customers to go without power for at least one night in hard-hit regions, such as southern, central, and eastern Ontario.

The report stated, “Significant damage, including broken poles or fallen trees and hazardous roads conditions, has been reported,” but didn’t go further.

Although 78,000 customers are now able to get power, approximately 210,000 people remain without electricity.

Environment and Climate Change Canada has also issued wind warnings to the southern region of Ontario. These warn against possible gusts of upto 100 kph (75 miles per hour).

Alectra also stated that workers had been sent to the Greater Toronto area to restore power, although it added that there might be some customers without power for all of the night.
