WASHINGTON (Reuters] – A Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted on Wednesday found that more than two thirds of Americans feel the United States should impose further sanctions against Russia, as Russia assembles its troops along the Ukraine-Russia border.
A majority of poll respondents were dissatisfied with President Joe Biden’s management of the crisis. It is in line with his poor job approval ratings. Only 48% of those polled said that the problems of Ukraine are not America’s problem.
Biden has promised Russia that it will be punished for invading Ukraine, but has also pledged to protect U.S. forces from the conflict.
This poll was conducted on Tuesday and Wednesday online and found 69% support sanctions for Russia.

According to the poll, 62% opposed sending U.S. soldiers to Ukraine in order for it not be invaded by Russia. The opposition was strongest among Republicans. Air strikes were also strongly opposed by a majority.
Republican legislators, seeking control of Congress in November’s midterm elections, have criticised Biden’s reaction to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Only 12% of Republicans favored Biden’s response to the crisis as compared to 58% of Democrats.
Yet, Biden is not the only one to blame for this crisis.
The poll found that about half of the country blame Putin for ordering Russian troops into the Ukrainian territories held by separatist ethnic Russians. Only 25% of Republicans who were polled believed that Biden was responsible.
The poll found that despite broad support for the use of sanctions, just half of Americans believed they were worth it if fuel prices rose. Russia is a large oil producer and major oil exporter. Concerns over conflict has pushed some oil contracts prices to the highest point since 2014.
It was done online as well as in English across the United States. 1 004 people responded to the poll, which included 420 Democrats (394 Republicans) and 131 unaffiliated. These results are credible intervals, which is a measurement of precision and accuracy, at 4 percentage points.
