American Express suspends operations in Russia and Belarus -Breaking

It joined a growing list of Western companies to protest Moscow’s invasion in Ukraine.
“In the light of Russia’s continued, unjustified attack against Ukraine’s people, American Express (NYSE: ) suspends all operations Russia,” stated the credit card firm in a statement published on its site.
American Express announced that it was also closing down all Belarus business operations.
American Express is following the U.S. counterparts Visa Inc (NYSE:) Mastercard Inc. (NYSE:), who announced the suspension of Russian operations and a payments company on the previous day PayPal Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:).
American Express stated that its internationally issued cards will no longer be accepted in Russia by merchants and ATMs. American Express said that cards from Russian banks will not work in Russia if they are issued outside of the network.
According to the company, it had already ended all relations with Russian banks that were affected by U.S. or international sanctions.
